Rippl
About The Project
Rippl is a final exam project for User Experience class my last semester of college. This project was a team effort that consisted of two graphic designers (Me and Bailey Brush) and two marketing students (Anna Hearne, and Morgan Bass). I was assigned Lead UX designer and Project lead, while the other teammates were assigned UX researcher, Graphic designer, and Marketer. Together we were all pushed out of our comfort zone to create Rippl. (Case study shows mostly only my portion of the project. Credit description is at the bottom.)
Date Created: Spring 2022
Duration: April-May 2022
Project Type: Product Design, UX/UI
My Role: Project Leader and Lead Product Designer
Collaborators: Bailey Brush,
Anna Hearne, Morgan Bass

Rippl is a community service app designed to connect users with volunteers who donate their time and skills to someone in need. At Rippl, our goal is to help promote community building while offering free services and access to everyone.
Overview

Problem Statement
Samantha is a graduate of her local university who recently lost her hearing and needs affordable American Sign Language classes because she still has student loan debt to pay off.

Solution
Rippl connects users with volunteers at no cost. The app gamifies community service by using a point system. Volunteers are rewarded points for donating their services and skills like for example American Sign Language tutoring, to help others like Samantha in their local community. These points can then be redeemed for prizes chosen by the app sponsors and users on the receiving end are awarded their chosen free service. The product will also provide adaptable customization buttons for users with disabilities that will cater the app to fit the users needs.

Qualitative Research
Research has shown that users with disabilities or users living in lower income homes are often challenged when looking for affordable services in their local area. For example, higher volume areas, hiring someone for tasks like mowing the lawn can cost up to $60 an hour. In low income areas, members of those communities are more inclined to help each other, rather than seek out help from costly services.

Visual Design
Rippl is designed with the user's needs, thoughts, and feelings in mind. Each color was selected with color theory in mind because research has shown that colors could have the ability to influence people's feelings and emotions. Rippl uses blue and other shades of blue to stimulate the feeling of calmness and relaxation. Round icons and buttons are used to promote a less serious environment and a more fun atmosphere. This is important when lifting the taboo veil around mental and physical disabilities. Rippl is designed to create an upbeat and positive experience around an app shedding light on mental and physical disabilities.
